1. Do you have to be Aboriginal to receive legal services from CLASSIC?

No, CLASSIC is open to everyone regardless of race, status, gender or background.


2. Who will I be dealing with at CLASSIC?

CLASSIC is run by law students under the guidance and supervision of a practicing lawyer.


3. What areas of law does CLASSIC deal with?

CLASSIC may deal with a variety of areas of the law with the exception of family and criminal matters. However, due to the rules of the law society, law students cannot represent clients before the Queen’s Bench. Additionally, if the amount claimed is a large enough where a lawyer could be hired on a contingency basis, then CLASSIC will refer the client.


4. Does CLASSIC ever charge clients?

All of CLASSIC’s services are free. However, clients are responsible for any external fees such as mailing costs, court costs, filing fees and other costs that arise in the process of resolution.


5. How is CLASSIC funded?

CLASSIC is funded jointly by several resources including, but not limited to, the Saskatchewan Law Foundation, Urban Aboriginal Strategy, Saskatchewan Justice, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Saskatchewan College of Law.


6. What is the difference between the Legal Advice Clinic (LAC) and CLASSIC?

CLASSIC is a walk-in legal clinic where law students assist clients under the supervision of a lawyer. CLASSIC students assist clients in many legal matters such as advocating and drafting documents. The Legal Advice Clinic allows clients to meet with a practicing lawyer for a half hour appointment. LAC deals with criminal, family and civil issues.


7. Do you have to be a Saskatoon resident?

In order to serve clients best, CLASSIC requires clients to be readily available for correspondence. Normally, this means that they should be a resident of Saskatoon or local surrounding area.


8. What do I need to bring when coming into CLASSIC?

Bring all the materials that you think may be relevant to your issue including letters, photos, applications,documents and proof of insurance.


9. What is the criteria?

In order to serve those who need it most, CLASSIC requires that clients fall within the income criteria. Also, CLASSIC requires that clients first apply to Legal Aid if applicable. In addition, claims cannot be for an amount which a lawyer could be hired on contingency basis.
